Cultural Wisdom for Climate Action Conference, Bangkok, Thailand

Earlier this year last January the Siam Society invited me to present my paper on Indigenous Art and Wisdom on Climate mitigation at the Cultural Wisdom for Climate Action Conference, in Bangkok, Thailand.

Such an honour to have this opportunity to speak about my art and the role of indigenous in climate mitigation. I know how small the population of indigenous in the world but our cultural wisdom already saved many forests and biodiversities within from being destroyed in the name of development.

I got invited to be speaker at COP27, 2022!

Last year I got invited to present my paper on the Role of Indigenous People in Peagtland Protection and Mitigation at COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.  I was part of Malaysian delegations that went to the conference on Climate Change 2022.

Felt so blessed that Global Environment Centre NGO sponsored me to be in Egypt for this special conference. It has to open my door to the world, especially in my activism.

I presented a token of appreciation to the Prince of Pahang at the presentation event. I was honored to have the event officiated by the Prince of Pahang during my presentation on that day.

I have met many inspiring indigenous leaders and activists throughout the COP27 event. There are some very good conferences at the indigenous pavilion as well.

Of course, my trip won't be complete without visiting a world-famous ancient monument Pyramid of Giza, in Cairo city. I managed to have an off day on Sunday to travel to Cairo by night bus.  First time on a camel ride!

Stateless Mind - Body of Knowledge: Performance Art and Video Streaming, a satellite event for Venice Biennale 2022, Venice, Italy

Poster of Shaq Koyok Poster

The performance art was performed at Archivi Della Misericordia, Venice, Italy

Title: Letter to the Forest

The aim of this performance art is to allow the audience to participate by coming up with messages about the spirit of nature, which build bridges to connect their lives and the natural environment.

The idea of sending messages is quite synonymous with our contemporary lifestyle, but it has always been a part of the traditional activities of indigenous people.

This performance art is inspired by the Asian tradition of putting a message on the banyan tree. In my indigenous community e=where, strong shamanistic traditions still exist, this goes even further. Offerings of food and verbal requests are made to the spirits of the trees and the jungle to ask permission to utilise the environment.

Land of A Thousand Guilts, my fourth exhibition to date.

This is my my fourth solo exhibition. First of all I would like to say thank you to anyone who went to my exhibition at Richard Koh Fine Art Gallery. But mostly to my parents and siblings who supported me from beginning of my career as an artist.

It was tough to be an artist when the pandemic hit, as we need a physical art exhibition to sell our artwork. But i was a bit lucky than other artist in Malaysia, i managed to get this exhibition running just when the restrictions were lifted. So many friends and collectors managed to see my work exhibited in the gallery.

Selected to be as one of Artivist-in-Residence and Speak at COP28, Dubai!
